PUBLIC HEALTH NOTICE

In case I have been putting the wind up people about the Swine flu I should point out that I got so bad because I have underlying chronic health difficulties with chest infections and pneumonia so other people would almost certainly not get as bad as me if they contracted swine flu.In fact the Doctor at the hospital was even sceptical that I had swine flu in the first place. This is a pity in a way as having been through all that the prospect of catching swine flu this winter is not a little daunting. If I have already had swine flu I would be immune as you can't catch it twice.I'm annoyed that I wasn't swabbed by the GP in the early stages as now I am playing Russian roulette not knowing one way or the other if there is a bullet out there for me. I also should have been in hospital long, long before as I was so bad and the longer you have pneumonia the worse it is. The hospital and all it's staff were wonderful and couldn't have treated me any better.Ifeel my GP let me down badly. As soon as I got ill i was worried about a chest infection ,then pneumonia developing, yet both were allowed to develop being treated too little and too late and then allowed get a deep grip of me befre eventually going to hospital. Try to get a good GP that you can know and trust and even talk to on first name terms. One day it may matter. And don't be worrying too much about swine flu , I was unlucky (even if I had it at all) Mrs EEjit had much milder symptoms than me,felt rotten for sure and wiped out, but no chest infection or any complications. I also noticed (you can't help overhearing) that all of us in A+E (no accident victims) all either smoked, or drank too much, or both. I don't smoke (thank god)but I did feel embarrassed estimating my weekly intake of alcohol. Why should Doctors have to look after me when I'm not even looking after myself?

You make a valid point that there are varying degrees of this pandemic, N1V1. It seems that Americans only get the mild version as well. I'm not a physician, but maybe it's because we have such a diverse population here, and if one lives long enough, one picks up a multitude of viruses, making immunity a positive after effect.

Frankly, I always welcome a good flu...It's a perfect jump start for a diet, no matter what time of year it arrives.

Glad to hear that Mrs. E. handled it well! She's such a dear one!

Bubble tea, a refreshing alternative! ; )

You might have a good point there Jeanne, mammy EEjit (82, insulin diabetic, asthmatic!) was staying with us at the time and she was grand, the doctors thought it might be because she had built up a resistance from all the multifarious flu jabs she has had over the years. Are ye mad!
Flu is as welcome here as an angry scorpion in me undercrackers.Mrs EEj rules! (Well this castle anyway)

I've fecked up the comments again.OOps.
Steven says..depending on the profile of the rest of your life, alcohol can be a factor in making you more vulnerable by lowering the strength of your immune system. by the same tken it does chill you out which has benefits for your body also!! so knowing when it's hurting you and being kind to yourself are important to be aware of and then to address and then to accept either you carry on as you are or you make adjustments. but, there's nothing like good parties!!! keep takin' your meds!!

It's never too late to start!! (I've just put my bossy hat on again). But seriously, some men seem to think they are being wimps if they take care of themselves, but I think it is just common sense. My husband also has chest problems and inherited his, so he tries to avoid even catching a cold. All your motherly smotherly bloggy friends will get together so you'll be inundated with hand knitted vests and woolly hats this winter, to keep you cosy and free from ills, so beware!!

Everything in moderation I guess ,Steven and therein lies the problem for EEjits like me.I'm gonna try to cut down, let battle commence!

Thanks my bossy blogpal :) And if you are knitting me a wooly vest for the winter ye better buy in a herd of sheep and get knitting now coz it's gonna have to be extra extra extra large in the belly department.A blue and gold woolly hat (Tipperary colours) would be very smart with matching wooly jacket and trousers then no matter how crowded, I'd always get a seat to myself on the bus ,which would be an added bonus!
Ps How does your husband avoid catching colds, bobbing and weaving perhaps? :)

My husband keeps away from anyone with a cold, and all the family know not to visit if they have one. I suppose it is easier now he is retired. If you are still working you are at the mercy of whatever germs are going round the workplace. It doesn't stop him going to the pub though - obviously the risk there is not so great!!

Fecking drs! I was listening to a thing on some radio station about swine flu being mis-diagnosed, one woman had to hassle doctors for two days to get her nine week old baby looked at, they had said it was swine flu, actually she had a chronic kidney infection!
Another woman was told over the phone she had swine flu, was posted tamiflu, kept getting worse, doctors wouldn't see her so she drove herself to hospital, where she collapsed and they found she had bacterial meningitis!
It's scary when even G.P's are jumping on the 'epidemic' bandwagon.
Luckily we have an excellent local doc, you won't get out of the surgery in less than half an hour, she never stops talking! lol, her names Ireen and she's about two feet tall and ginger :-D
Hope you're well and truely turning the bend mush!

The kidney infection/meningitis stories are scary, uiscecats, especially where babies are concerned. And taking Tamiflu unecessarily is probably as bad as not getting it when you do need it.good health is a blessing and I'm glad ye have a good GP,it's important. Not sure if I'm turning the bend but I've certainly been driven around it ! :)
