BIOLOGY

The other day was a trilogy, well today I have 2 poems ,one from now and one from many hundreds left lying (lie-ing?) all over the place, this one from circa 2005.So old I don't remember writing it. It reads like someone else wrote it ,which is always a gud thang. My playlist has been banished and banned, not sure of the laws of copyright involved here so i canno comment beyond to say I miss it sorely. The watercats have stoutly stepped in to put their thumb in the dyke. Go rabh maith agut ,Uiscekateens! So if 3 poems is a trilogy is 2 poems a biology? :)
I don't know, I don't care.

Today

Today I turned a corner
perhaps my lung was bicycle-pumped
in the night.
I felt myself taking a step away from,
yet closer to, the end.
Outside of the walls of home
in this open air,plein air.
I recognise the warmth
of sun upon my back
it's outreached rays sang
'Nearer my God to thee'
but only the flowers were listening
their summer at an end.

Yesterday. This is not a love song

They were lovers, once, arm in arm
and when he whispered, she thought
she heard 'I Iove you'
not the rushing of the waves.
In the skies they had hoped for stars
as in the science of their dreams.
He saw only seagulls crying
for the prodigals return,
circling around loss of faith.
All they hoped ,was for future
all they longed, was belief,
all they lacked,
was each other.

Both poems are really beautiful in their ways.
Today - the bicycle-pumped lung, the plein air and the listening flowers...
Yesterday - not the rushing of the waves (and so much more).
Biology is now my favourite subject.

Kat

(I have that identical "Birds" book on my shelf, Peadar. Missing jacket and all.)

'Today' is scary but 'Yesterday' is beautiful. Both are good.

The first one is speaking to me as a relative...see my post tomorrow.

The second one, well, Dover Beach refuted?

Yet again.. things of lovliness.. there must be some serious melancholy floating about in the oirish air, lol! Love the irony of "stepping away, but nearer to".. that so true for so many moments.. As for putting us on your blog.. We're truelly be-humbled!.. don't know what to say actually.. cheers!.. Sorry it wasn't better quality, lol! It's a fecker about the music player thing, goddamn licensing laws, yet another control tactic for us to try and rally against.. ggrrrrrrr..
Thank god our words are free! Particularly yours.. :-)

Like 'em both! I think I might like "Today" best--think it's one of your very best poems.

Sorry to hear about your playlist--if you need more music, let me know--I'd be happy to let you have mp3s--am just finalizing the mixes on 12 songs I recorded while Eberle was away.

Thanks Kat' kind words (as usual!)That's funny that you have the same little Observer's book on birds.I have another on trees and one on cars.some people collect them, there must be hundreds :)
Just went to the shelf to check and it's actually 'Automobiles' and by surprise find I have one on ships too that I'd totally forgotten about!

Thanks Heather :) Every day is scary to me!

Thanks Watercats, glad to have your music and words on me bloggo. The stepping away/getting nearer to thing did strike me and I've had it in me head a while looking for a home.

Thanks John ,it's good and interesting to know that you think the first one is one of the best.Might show there's been improvemrnt in the 4 years? John,I'm so out of touch with technology, I'd love to have some of your music, I think I can play MP3's on my kind of imitation cheap MP3 player but would I be able to put them on my blog?
Ps 12 songs? Boy that seems a lot! How long has Eberle been away? Do you put in long hours with the music ,John?

The 2nd poem 'yesterday' really strikes a chord. I love it.

Have you visited crafty green poet? This bolg generates interesting poetry debate. http://craftygreenpoet.blogspot.com/

Amazing bit about the sun on your back singing Nearer My God to thee. I really love Today. Brilliant.

Ooh...I like Today...know that lovely feeling of the sun on my back. When I take my walks, one way the sun is on my face, the other, my back. I appreciate the goodness of both feelings.

Yesterday... I have to agree with ArtSparker. The first thing that came to my mind was Dover Beach. Actually, I felt more like I was right there on the beach with your poem than with Mr. Arnold's.

Ah yes, biology!

Now, here's a silly joke about another subject, Geometry: What did the acorn say when he grew up? "Geometry!"

My Playlist has been acting strangely lately, too. A friend of mine swears by Pandora....at least I think that's the name of it. I'll check later to be sure.

wv: omble: In my omble opinion, these two poems are biological entities of superior composition.

Or is it just because it's totally ridiculous? Help!I hate not getting jokes makes me feel isolated and twitchy!) Thanks a million for the playlist tips will try them coz I miss my muso real bad ;(

Thanks Adam and welcome! You have an interesting blog, must go back for a proper look.Paris is such a great city, what a wonderful place to live.See you at 7pm Monday for the poem, Paris must be full of them!

Yesterday is something of a triumph, I think. Today I liked, but Yesterday must take the honours today! Super little poem, the last two lines clinch it very well.

I'd be inclined to call it a diology

Dr. Jeanne Iris said...

Really?! You really didn't get it? Or are you just teasing. Well, just in case...

Geometry: Gee, I'm a tree!

(You have to pronounce 'I'm' with a bit of a Southern U.S. drawl.)

Totalfeckineejit said...

Thanks, Dave, I really appreciate the feedback :)

Totalfeckineejit said...

See Mrs Niamh this is why you is an award winning investigative probing broadcaster and (performance) poet. This is an excellent new word what you has created.I'm getting on to O.E.D right now!

Totalfeckineejit said...

Jeann, I get it, I get it, I get it!Ha, proper Ha! To be fair to me,in my defence,it's more of an aural joke than a written one plus I is as thick as three short planks! But tis funny though :)

I also have one on "Cats" - big surprise! I remember giving one on horses as a gift to a friend in Jr. High School. She was mad for them. Actually, she was just plain mad. On St. Patrick's Day, she wore an Irish flag! (Her name was Erin.)

Kat

Totalfeckineejit said...

Well she wasn't that mad unless she ate the flag? Should have known you would have an observer's book of Kats :)

Can't think why I wasn't reading blogs when you posted this!

If you want stuff for your playlist, feel free to use The Big Bad Beast (if you want to!)

Like the poems - especially Today and especially
"it's outreached rays sang
'Nearer my God to thee'
but only the flowers were listening"
