Congratulations /commiserations to new poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy

Great news , Roger McGough is not the new poet leerytwat.Well done CAD no harm at all that it is a woman for a change but in all honesty that is irrelevant to me,gender does not enter into it,she is a great poet and that is what counts.Having said that, though Poet Laureate is a great achievement, it is also anachronistic, linked to that bloody awful monarchy and a kiss of death to poetry in general.I am pleased for her and congratulate her and maybe she will be the first to break the mould and produce some proper poetry under the post of laureate

Poet Leerytwat. I wonder how that would go down over here? We could use some groundbreakers as well - none of this self-indulgent claptrap that passes for "art". (I'm a bad girl...I don't even know who our Leerytwat is at the moment.)
I have a look at the odd Can-literary journal and I just KNOW they're never going to give a flying fig about anything I put to paper.
Or am I just scared of rejection?

Aw, TFE - You're playing one of my favourites there with the Kate Bush.

Hey Kat, you never know till you try! And sometimes I wonder about publication at all for if the point is that you want people to read your poetry then keep posting on your blog as you have a large readership and if the worth of a poem is realised when even just one person is moved by it then clearly this has been achieved over and over when you read some of the comments you get :) And yes Kate Bush is deadly.

Very true, TFE and don't think I don't think about that (and great appreciate it). I would like to have a collection though. I will never go the "officially acclaimed" route, but to have something in print would be great.

P.S. What's your favourite Kate album?

You can always self publish Kat, be nice for you and your friends and family and something to'leave behind' too a sort of literary 'I woz 'ere' and why not? Fave Kate album? Mmm, all of them! I like bits of each, love sea/sky of honey to listen to in entirety but then they're not as good as cloudbusting or some of the other tracks on previous albums. What do you think?

I love 'em all too, but The Kick Inside will always be dearest to my heart, I think. As for particular songs, I'll have to consider that and get back to you.
