Will I ever forget?
She was wearing Stella McCartney
I was drinking Stella Artois
An homage to the pastiche of ourselves
We were a match struck in heaven
But lit in hell fingernails painted and bitten
In equal measure the pleasure was in the pain
Hold on, hold on, tight to the night
Neon gypsy bus tripped out wires star crossed
Danced dizzy in a haze of love of excess
Sense yet to be learned our fingers burned
Fireworks in the black, black Manchester skies
Police helicopter marlboro smokes searchlit
Platt Fields bodies in the pond words on the wire
Fists before dawn guns around the corner
Of our lexicon, fight five times a week
Battered blue boy, the drunk kid on the block
Self-defence was excused
Downstairs in The White Lion subversive
Subterranean, survival of the luckiest
Danger licked the corners, bravado
By the pint more desperate than strong
Kiss me Judas-quick if you think that wrong
Rough injustice no friend of mine, but
She was the stars, I the moon
We blaze our own neon nebulas
From the back of a stolen car
the sodium lights blurr 70 , 80 ,90
Princess Parkway, one way, one way only,
And that was Out.
Some more Passengers, wonder where they're going, Ooo-er! Carry on busing!

Fantastic, frenetic, finely-crafted piece there, TFE! I particularly like your allusions to writing in this one. Looking forward to reading the other takes on those two lines you supplied.

You lot are all a little affected -just thought I'd mention it you know;);)
If Stella was a fella I reckon he'd be a lurex clad hairdresser specialising in moose structuring big hair yokes...nothing more nothing less. That's all I've to say..my brain just won't entertain the subject any further for some reason

A fantastic stream of energy. I didn't get thayt buzz from anything in the few magazines I was flicking through only this afternoon. As it is only a few I wouldn't be dogmatic about it -I could be talking cobblers- but I think poetry now needs more stuff like this. There are other kinds of poetry I like too, but I like this: talking neither down nor up, neither over-intellectual nor "dumbed down", just the genuine article. Trying to do what poetry does: with energy.

Boy - that is one sophisticated poem you have writ there eej. Still pain-ridden I have hobbled to the side of the road and waited for the bus to come along. My legs may not be working as well as they should at present but there is nothing to stop my brain mulling over your two sentence starter for the poem. My entry has just been posted - enjoy (or not as the case me be).

I love the energy and the sound of this! I had to read it orally just to hear myself gathering speed!
I wish I had a ticket this week, but having neither designer duds to wear nor a good lager to make me not care, I'm just standing here, thumbing a ride, reading everyone else's good poetry!

Bodies in the pond, hmm. Frabjous ride, TFE. I likes how it clicks along, taking us with, clandestinlike in the back seat.
My own is much more sedate. Sessile, even.
it was murder....
am liking the look of that neon gypsy bus
Here's the plan TFE - since this one has conjured such a plethora of rhyme and rhythm strong narrative led beauties - You are going to gather them all together and ship simultaneously to Stella's head of Marketing, Stella Mac, and Leonard Bernstein. A broadway hit "Stella - the musical" is born - contributing poets get a six pack of Stella (with me getting a slab for coming up with this genius idea), costumes by Stella Mac, sponsored by Stella A, and the profits are plowed back into the Poetry Bus Publication!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mine is also up now - will have to come back and read yours later
i LOVE YOUR POEM! iT'S REALLY INTENSE.. sorry (caps), I love the alcohol fuelled zoom of it, all swooning and swaying and beautiful terrible imagery... nice stuff!..
I've attempted the challenge, but fear I haven't really done t' poem justice.. me head is wrecked! :-) in a good way though..
cheers!
Just climbed aboard and posted my offering on my blog. Cheers!
A match struck in heaven but lit in hell.
Its very John Cooper Clarke and I mean that as an enormous compliment
I'm here! A bit late, but I'm here. (I took a little liberty with the two lines. I hope you don't mind.)
Love this:
"guns around the corner
Of our lexicon"
A smashing poem, Peadar. It is a powerful one - drunk and disorderly, battered wives, that chemistry that holds in spite of all the nastiness that the depths of a soul can unearth. Despite it all, sometimes it works. Scary, that.
It was great!
Kat
just loving the results of this prompt TFE, been laughing all afternoon. but now my head is full of everyone else's thoughts so am struggling to find a different angle, may have to go and browse some Stella as I have no idea what she designs like, and unfortunately cannot stand the taste of Stella
whatever
thanks
cfm
I think there might be a David Lynch film in that poem.
I'm with Peter here: "We were a match struck in heaven
But lit in hell". This was a real-fizz-bang white-knuckle joyride of a pome!!
Hi TFE, Dont get too excited havent managed a poem this week,
Just to let you know that I changed my name from sortofwitty to
