So, Punk , you think you can play the bodhran?

The Bodhran! That much abused, misused and brutalised instrument that, in the wrong hands, has decimated many a lively session between portlaise and Pluto, can be a wonderful thing. Here nine years after he played at the wedding of the century(Mr + Mrs EEjit) is John Joe Kelly showing how it should be done. Breathtaking - I have never heard playing like that before. And I thought the Chieftans were good.

Play it?! I can't even pronounce it!

Johnny Joe can play him some Bodhran! A 5-minute solo on any kind of drum is difficult, but he sure did it. The EEjit wedding must have been quite a soiree.

Bow-rawn, Titus, roughly, though often slightly different.

You'd know John! And yes people said twas the best wedding ever! We did have gate crashers and guests migrating from another wedding in the same hotel. The band, at that time called 'Quare Crack'with John Joe Kelly, Kieran Cunningham and all Ireland champion fiddle player Dezi Donelly, who later played with Sharon Shannon, said it was the best wedding they had played at and stayed on in the bar playing for fun till 5am!

Oooh, when I live in Irelo I wanted one of those (still do, actually). Cracking, stirring things when played properly. Butcher of the ears of friend and foe alike when not.
