ESCAPEE WILD HAGGIS

One of the Haggi managed to escape the enclosure in the castle keep this evening and to get out beyond the castle demesne. They are ingenious litte creatures and will find ways out no matter how hard you try to pen them in.luckily I had my camera with me and was able to get this shot from the saddle of the Honda 5o as i laid chase. See from the photo how they would be very well camouflaged against a snowy woodland hillside.Anyway if any proof were needed to verify their existence, then here it conclusively is. I rest my case.

But did you catch the crafty little bugger?

Yes Susan, Haggi love asparagus so we laid a trail back to the castle and it followed-eventually!

Handsome, asparagus-crunching, and an independent spirit to boot! My kind of creature! Is there a way you can save this white wool? Will it turn again when the snow melts?

Hey Jeanne, Yes indeed ,we always trim some of the white wool when we can for it has been known in rare cases for an individual Haggis to be unable to change from brown to white in snowy conditions.(The medical term is crookchameleonosis)This causes the animal so much stress, to be the odd-one-out in the herd ,that it actually molts all it's fur completely. However with the previously gathered wool Mrs EEjit has been able to fashion an all-in-one jumpsuit to fit the afflicted Haggis till the snow has gone and the brown coat returns.

Are you sure they don't just love being caught? Seems an awful waste of asparagus!

Hi Dave,I think you may be right, some of them do have a somewhat playful nature and maybe it's just a ruse to get some tasty asparagus.Luckily it's only 39 cent per bundle at Aldi at the moment.-one of my recession bustin' (asparagus) tips!

Isn't that amazing how mammals lose their hair and birds lose their feathers under stressful conditions? One would think that stress would cause the animal to build up a protection of sorts to shield against the stress.
Now, this makes me think that by losing an outer layer, the inner core strengthens. In the animal world, would this creature that was stressed then become the alpha haggis?

Haggi on the run - where was Bosco when you needed his sniffing out abilities...talking of which, is he settling down any ?- bet he's glad of a comfy spot by the fireplace in this artic weather. : )

Ah Liz, poor Bosco had to go back to the ispca, his behaviour and aggression (particularly to himself) was getting worse. They don't give up on their dogs though and have sent him for training/treatment and will let us know how he gets on.He was actually delighted to get back to the kennels too!Ultimately he might be better suited to a home with no children. That's the bad news but the good news is we have Molly the collie, and we are all head over heels in love. She was rescued from a puppy farm and had to have her fur cut off as it was in such bad condition, she's also extremely skinny but totally gorgeous.Till she grows her coat back she has to wear a red jacket and very smart she looks too:)

TFE, that is some story - hopefully poor Bosco will get sorted out - it's reassuring to know the ISPCA try their best for them...and you sure gave him a fair trial...but meantime, Molly is about - got to have a photo of her in that red outfit ; ) ...but jesus, the idea of her losing all her hair in the first place due to barbaric humans is enough to make you lose hope altogether in the bloody human race...'nuff said!

Hey Liz , I've bloggedup a poteegraph of the Mollster.she's the gentlest most benign dog I've ever encountered in my crazy mixed up life. Part Donkey part dog she just stands stoically passive while you stroke her, feed her, wash her, put coat, harness , lead on her.Automatically house trained, faithful ,loyal, terrified of loud noises, other people, dogs etc. How anyone could have mistreatedher is beyond comprehension.
