Muse Swings The POetry Bus

THe last Poetry Busof 2010 and the worst physical present ever given to me was ...shoelaces! On my birthday. But what can you say about shoelaces that doesn't rhyme, chime,or be sublimely offputting for all things footing?

Shoelaces put me through my paces
they said more in the spaces
than the eyelets would allow
how?
Well,
Shoelaces caused me two faces one that cried 'How lovely'!
One that, well, just cried.
I've lied.
I didn't cry at all,
I loved them.

Well that was that and this is this, whatever this may be and it's this that I hope for...only better.

Past present

The greatest gift
The worst
Don’t give your love to me
I will break your heart
because despite the music
despite the stained velour
I could take your soul
but not your hand
180 degrees or 360
Centigrade or Celsius
There is no us, only me
I give fake, give lies , give
the glitterless prize,
Take hope destroy joy
The vainest of vices
I sense weakness
like all kissable
Incendiary devices
I’m going to blow up
In your face

Shoelaces? Sounds like something in a bad short story! So sorry. Oh...you liked them...

Well, I like Past Present very much! It feels raw and true.

Love the roses peeping over that huge rock - what a lovely thought, blue skies and roses. Two great poems but I don't believe the second one.

I wish I'd had some shoelaces for Xmas - all mine are knotted together in several places!!

Great poems, like Heather I don't believe the second one though!

That second poem is right on the edge. Love the shoelaces!

I'm with Heather about the 2nd one - although I think it's a fabulous poem, especially that last line.

Oh shoelaces! I love the thought that there is more to them that just that weaving on shoes.

The Shoelaces poem really touched me. Your second poem brought back some bad memories that I thought had been rotting in the city dump for a while. Both are poignant and beautifully wrought!

Look forward to your first poem(s) of 2011!

Every present, however crap, has its day. Fumbling into my boots on Christmas afternoon so as to chase away the cat stalking the wrens, the lace broke. By the time I'd cut a length of string to fit, both cat and wrens had, ominously, disappeared. QED...

That second one is pretty special - especially the ending.
My worst present was an instruction booklet for a camera - without the camera.
Missed the bus this week, ah well, hopefully see ya next week.
